ꕤ Bunnies & Guinea Pigs love Lucerne Tree leaves & can chew the branches & twigs , it is an evergreen tree from the pea family & high in protein so is a healthy treat that can also help with weight gain in underweight bunnies. Also called Tagasaste the Lucerne tree is from the same plant family as Lucerne hay (Alfalfa hay)
I feed my buns a half arm length of Lucerne tree each a day when I have cut some from the tree , not all the time as just like Lucerne hay it’s high in protein & calcium
Do not feed to bun if they are overweight, as high in protein. Or if bun tends to suffer from bladder sludge, as high in calcium
Tree Lucerne / Tagastase
Tree Lucerne and Lucerne/Alfalfa grass/hay are two distinct plants, but they do come from the same (general) family - the Pea family - Fabaceae. Tree Lucernce = Chamaecytisus proliferus var palmensis. Alfalfa/Lucerne = Medicago sativa.
